Al Baraka Bank Champions Environmental Protection and Animal Welfare on Al Baraka Day 2025
11 November 2025
Demonstrating its unwavering commitment to social responsibility and sustainability, Al Baraka Bank dedicated this year’s Al Baraka Day to initiatives aligned with the United Nations Sustainable
Development Goal 15: Life on Land — a global call to protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems.
On Monday, 10 November 2025, Al Baraka Bank staff nationwide took part in hands-on volunteer
activities focused on environmental preservation and animal welfare — promoting a greener planet and the well-being of vulnerable animals within local communities.
Environmental Impact in Paradise Valley
In Durban, the day commenced with a clean-up operation at Paradise Valley Nature Reserve, where volunteers collected waste and helped restore the natural environment. These efforts assisted in conserving biodiversity, safeguarding wildlife habitats, and maintaining the beauty of a treasured community green space.
In support of environmental sustainability, Al Baraka Bank was pleased to announce its donation of benches to the Paradise Valley Nature Reserve. These benches will provide comfortable seating for visitors enjoying the reserve’s scenic hikes and trails, encouraging more people to connect with and appreciate nature. This initiative not only enhances the visitor experience but also promotes environmental stewardship—fostering a deeper respect for natural spaces and contributing to the preservation of a thriving ecosystem for future generations.
Supporting Local SPCAs Across South Africa
The bank further extended its outreach by prioritising animal welfare. Volunteers visited SPCA branches in Sandton, Durban, and Cape Town, handing over essential food and supplies valued at R25 000 per region to support the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of animals in need.
In line with the Islamic principle of compassion toward all living beings, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked, ‘O Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)! Is there a reward for us in serving the animals?’ The messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: ‘Yes, there is a reward for serving any living creature).’” Narration extracted from Sahih Al Bukhari Hadith 2466.
“Al Baraka Day represents our belief that banking must serve a higher purpose,” said Mr Ismail Yuseph, Interim COO of Al Baraka Bank. By investing in environmental protection and animal welfare, we uphold our values of stewardship, compassion and social upliftment — creating a meaningful and lasting impact beyond finance.
Through these initiatives, Al Baraka Bank continues to demonstrate its commitment to responsible action and sustainable progress, ensuring support for both local ecosystems and the communities who depend on them.
