Al Baraka Bank Amplifies Impact on Al Baraka Day, Focused on No Poverty Goal
11 November 2023 - Al Baraka Bank proudly announces its participation in the second annual charity event, Al Baraka Day, aligning with the global commitment to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 1 (SDG 1) - "No Poverty". This initiative, organized under the theme of No Poverty, reflects the Bank's dedication to uplifting local communities. In collaboration with Al Baraka Group, the Bank distributed essential household appliances to 110 deserving families across the regions of Durban, Johannesburg, and Cape Town.
Aligned with the overarching theme of Poverty, the initiative aims to contribute towards the eradication of extreme poverty by 2030, a pivotal goal outlined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Each of the recipient households received essential appliances, including a 2 Burner Auto Ignition Stainless Steel Cooker, Swivel Type Regulator Kit, 1.5m Hose, 3 kg Gas Tank, and a Solar Light. These items are vital for daily living and will provide much-needed relief to families facing economic challenges.
Al Baraka Bank has partnered with esteemed non-profit organizations in the respective regions to identify deserving families. In Durban, the Bank collaborated with Human Aid in identifying 30 households. In Johannesburg, the Roshnee Feeding Foundation and Live to Give Foundation together selected 40 families. Additionally, Fusion Inyameko Foundation and South African National Zakaat Foundation (SANZAF) worked with Al Baraka Bank South Africa to identify 40 families in Cape Town. The official handover ceremonies were conducted with the active involvement of the Bank's dedicated staff members.
Mr. Shabir Chohan, CEO at Al Baraka Bank South Africa, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Our focus this Al Baraka Day was not just to provide material aid but to instil hope, empower communities and promote sustainable change. By aligning with SDG 1 and collaborating closely with our non-profit partners, we intend to make a tangible difference in the lives of families facing extreme poverty. Together, we are creating a brighter, more prosperous future for all."
In addition to these efforts, Al Baraka Bank actively contributed to the local community by participating in WEFEED SA’s 10,000 burger drive. The Bank’s staff enthusiastically engaged in preparing burgers for distribution to underprivileged communities in the Durban Area, further emphasizing their commitment to alleviating hunger and poverty.
The projects undertaken by Al Baraka Group, its units and employees were diverse and impactful, ranging from donating clothes, footwear, and blankets to providing essential devices for public hospitals and schools. Initiatives also included building a children's playground, distributing meals, and installing energy-saving devices and lights. These efforts contributed significantly to achieving SDG 1, demonstrating the bank's dedication to creating a better future for all.
